Flautist Benjamin Griffiths takes the lead part in Bach's virtuosic Orchestral Suite No 2 and is joined by Alex Rider for the Flute and Harp Concerto by Mozart.

6.15pm Pre-concert talk by Dr Clive McClelland (University of Leeds) on Mozart's concerto and patronage within the arts. Free to ticket holders.

‘If a patron buys from an artist who needs money (needs money to buy tools, time, food), the patron then makes himself equal to the artist; he is building art into the world; he creates.’ Ezra Pound

Patronage has often been a lifeblood for composers be it the Leipzig church of Bach, Haydn’s aristocratic Esterházy patrons, the wealthy military leader Adrien-louis de Bonnieres who commissioned Mozart’s sublime Flute and Harp Concerto or the Swiss philanthropist Paul Sacher who supported Bartók’s endeavours. Some who have had the resources have invested them in some of the greatest musicians and greatest music ever.
