Three brand new short operas plus a Yorkshire take on Rossini's The Barber of Sevillemake up this sharing event in Bradford's most exciting arts venue.
Friendship by Fran Wyburn is based on stories and characters created by members of the Bradford Friendship Choir. In busy Broadway Shopping Centre three pairs of friends meet on their way to the Friendship Choir: New Friends meeting for the first time, Old Friends who struggle with memory after 75 years, and Lost Friends who find each other after years apart.
Perfume by composer Alya Al-Sultani and writer Kamal Kaan is a chance encounter between an enthusiastic perfume seller and a young man whose life changes forever.
Last Gift composed by Ben Crick with words by Khadijah Ibrahiim is about Emperor Tewodros of Ethiopia who looks out on the field of Magdala where he has suffered defeat to the British, and his son Prince Alemaheyu who looks out over Leeds where he lives in exile.
Finally, Yorkshire poet, Ian McMillan was commissioned to write two sample sections of Rossini's The Barber of Seville with a Yorkshire flavour. Expect 'Largo al factotum' (Figaro! Figaro! Figaro!) but as you've never heard it before.
