Beethoven's Seventh Symphony is a work that captures the zeitgeist like few others. Premiered at a concert to raise funds to help those wounded at the Battle of Hanau, Beethoven himself said he was motivated 'by nothing but pure patriotism and the joyful sacrifice of our powers for those who have sacrificed so much for us'.

Paired here with Haydn's Military Symphony, a full performance of Beethoven's Seventh follows a dramatisation of the story and events behind the symphony using diaries, letters and contemporary accounts of the time illustrated with live musical extracts.
